I caught a verse on the radio today that struck me. If you're like me, a lot of those verses don't sit for very long or they simply provide a momentary encouragement.
This one has settled with me and challenged me. Romans 12:10 says this: "Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor."
Let me suggest a specific challenge: honor someone this weekend.
Could be your neighbor, a leader, a servant, someone you don't like. Could be your family.
When we take passages like this literally, it allows us to see value in others - even those we don't like. What if I honored someone I don't particularly like or someone who draws my harsh side too often?
The answer is simple: you see the value they have in Jesus' eyes and your differences come into perspective. You get the idea that Jesus loves them and that the strength of love for people is stronger than whatever we might say negatively about them.
How is up to you. But give it a shot. Send an e-mail. Provide a treat. Say a kind word. Give a gift.
Doens't have to be an enemy. Could be a friend.
Show some love and some appreciation. Breathe some life into someone this weekend.
Outdo one another in showing honor.
In Christ,
Pastor Kevin
