Mark 1 is about giving. In this chapter, Jesus heals and makes friends.
Mark 2-3 is about taking. In these two chapters, Jesus seizing territory and begins to make enemies.
When Mark begins, his story reads like a healing account.
Jesus’ words about forgiveness in verse 5 are disturbing because we expect a healing account.
Mark uses Jesus’ response to show us the warrior who is about to claim what belongs to him.
Forgiveness in Mark 2:5 is absolute. “I absolve you of your sins. You are hereby free from condemnation.”
Jesus can claim the right to forgive sins because he has the ability to heal.
