Two weekends ago our annual missions conference was held here at Goss Memorial.
I love this particular weekend for a number of reasons. One of my favorite things about interacting with missionaries is the reminder that they are real people with real lives and situations.
Receivng updates from missionaries makes for a great way to stay in touch. But, a printed or electronic update can only do so much.
Seeing people in the flesh, having fellowship, finding out how to pray for them - these all make a difference.
Let me present a brief list of the types of things missionaries asked our congregation to lift up in prayer:
- leading by example in parenting
- college search of the oldest child
- depending on the Lord for fruit
- balance of truth and grace
- family balance
- support needs
- transition of kids back to mission field after six months in U.S.
These don't seem like the "garden variety" requests. I appreciate the vulnerability, honesty, and grit of our missionaries to allow us to know some of their personal requests and to pray over them.
Continue lifting our missionaries up in prayer today. Remember, they are real people!
In Christ,
Pastor Kevin
