One of the things I have enjoyed doing over the past several years is advocating for children in Summit County Juvenile Court. The role I fill is called a CASA which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. Basically, I investigate cases related to child welfare and then tell the magistrate what I think represents the children's best interest.
When you think of advocates, you might think of lawyers, guardians, or truth-tellers who help victims and others marginalized or harmed in some way.
Did you know the Bible calls Jesus our "Advocate"?
I John 2:1 says: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous”
We cannot properly advocate for ourselves before God. He knows our best interest. If we explained our own case, sin would taint our arguments. Jesus Christ, the perfect Advocate, stands in the gap. He knows all our needs. He speaks for us. He pleads our case. And, he assures justice based on HIS work, not ours.
We have the best advocate before God we could ever want: Jesus. Today, consider your legal standing before God. Consider Jesus, my advocate and yours. And, trust that He always knows your best interest and will tell it to the heavenly court on your behalf!
In Christ,
Kevin
