From ERLC Parenting Panel: Prayers Drawn from Scripture for Your Children
Praying Scripture is a tool I’ve come to use and treasure. Some days I’m too tired to come up with the words (although, yes, God can hear and smile upon my incomplete thoughts). Some days the enemy sneaks his way into my thoughts and words. Other days, I remember truth. God spoke these Living Words to us. What better way to glorify Him through prayer than speaking those words back? Praying Scripture takes the burden off our weariness (a.k.a it takes the pressure of my mommy-brain).
I have specifically come to use this method when praying for my children. Years ago, I stumbled upon a document that was recently reposted by Living Proof Ministries. I have used it through different seasons, and I was so happy to be reminded of it. I have not only prayed these words over my children, but with them, to them, filling in their names out loud. What a tool. What a gift. I have come to love speaking the truth of Scripture back to the One who breathed these words into existence. It has drawn me into a deeper bond with God through prayer. These words are His, and I believe He is pleased when we use them, especially when we use them to cover the children He has entrusted us with.
Let me share this resource with you. Pray these words over any child in your life. And get this, it not only has the Scripture reference but also a (complete thought!) prayer to go along with it! Mommy-brain win.
